An oval blue sapphire of approximately 4.5 carats holds the center of this platinum ring, framed by round brilliant diamonds totaling approximately 1.5 carats. Sapphire is a nine on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, and that hardness is why it is one of the few colored stones we are comfortable recommending for a ring worn every day rather than saved for occasions. The oval outline lengthens the finger, and platinum was the deliberate choice for the setting: its neutral white does not push warmth into the blue the way yellow gold would.
