Three Stone Engagement Rings in San Francisco

The three stone ring carries a meaning couples love: past, present, and future, told in three diamonds. It is also one of the most flattering designs ever made, drawing the eye along the finger while side stones amplify the center. Edward's Jewelry & Imports, a San Francisco family jeweler since 1983, offers one of the city's deepest three stone selections within our engagement ring collection.

Side Stones Beyond the Ordinary

What sets our three stone rings apart is the cutting: trapezoid, half moon, Cadillac, triangle, marquise, and pear side stones, matched by hand to centers that include white diamonds, natural fancy yellow diamonds in radiant and cushion cuts, and blue and pink sapphires. Settings are platinum and 18K yellow gold, with total weights currently from about 1.35 to nearly 9 carats. Every piece is one of a kind and made in-house.

A Design Worth Seeing in Person

Proportion is everything in a three stone ring: the ratio between center and sides changes the entire character of the piece. Try different combinations at our Brannan Street showroom, or book an online consultation from outside the Bay Area. We own all our inventory, disclose certification and grading on every stone, and back each ring with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects; in-stock rings under $10,000 ship free within the US. If you have a family stone to honor, our workshop can build a three stone design around it.

FAQs

What does a three stone engagement ring symbolize?

The three stones traditionally represent a couple's past, present, and future together. Some couples read them as love, fidelity, and friendship. Either way, it is one of the few ring designs whose meaning is built into its very structure.

What side stone shapes does Edward's use in three stone rings?

Far more than the usual rounds: our collection features trapezoid, half moon, Cadillac, triangle, marquise, and pear side stones, each hand-matched to the center. These specialty cuts are harder to source and set, and they are a signature of our workshop.

What center stones can I choose for a three stone ring?

Our current collection includes white diamonds, natural fancy yellow diamonds in radiant and cushion cuts, and blue and pink sapphires, with total weights from about 1.35 to nearly 9 carats. You can also select a loose GIA-certified stone with us and we will build around it.

What proportions work best between center and side stones?

A common starting point is side stones totaling about half the center's weight, but taste rules here: larger sides feel bold and architectural, smaller sides keep focus on the center. Trying combinations on your hand at our showroom settles it faster than any formula.

Can you build a three stone ring around an heirloom diamond?

Yes, and it is one of our favorite commissions. Our workshop matches side stones to your family diamond and designs the setting in-house, with a 3D preview before crafting. It is a beautiful way to carry a previous generation's stone into a new marriage.

Are the stones in your three stone rings certified?

We disclose certification and grading details on every stone before you buy, including GIA reports where the center stone carries one, and any treatments on colored gemstones. For a purchase this significant, you should never have to wonder what you own.

How do I see your three stone rings if I am not in San Francisco?

Book an online consultation and we will present rings and loose stones on video, exactly as we would across the counter. When you decide, an in-stock ring under $10,000 ships free within the US with insurance coverage until delivery (rings of $10,000 or more are purchased by showroom appointment), and our lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects stands behind it. Bay Area clients are always welcome at our Brannan Street showroom.
